whew! what a ride the last 2 years have been. full of growth, contentment, presence, and some of the most challenging moments i’ve ever had to face in my life. now that i’ve finally GRADUATED (first, i must make sure that i actually paid tuition for this last quarter… oops), it’s time to put this tumblr on hiatus. it’s been a great way to keep me connected to the world and letting my friends know that i’m still alive, but having finished with elluminates and the need for hours long skype meetings, i’m taking advantage of this opportunity to disconnect from my computer screen. it’s time for some face-to-face, baby! i’ll see you in a few months, tumblrland!

- conservative lady: killing osama bin laden was necessary for justice, freedom, and peace.
- me: justice, yes. peace and freedom? no. probably the exact opposite.
- conservative lady: we must protect ourselves from radical islamists who are after our freedom!
- me: the same could be said, to a lesser extent, of radical christians, too.
- conservative lady: give me one example of how christians want to take away freedom from you.
- me: my freedom of choice.
- conservative lady: i'm not talking about this anymore.

oh, i love this. i love how straightforward chinese people can be and how funny they are in the process (mom!). makes a lot of sense, too — i’ve never understood the passive aggressive tendencies of seattle, probably because i grew up in a household where you just say what’s on your mind. saves a lot of time and effort when you don’t have to guess at what someone really means.
Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: The latest StoryCorps animated short, “No More Questions,” features Kay Wang, “a feisty grandmother,” sitting down for a somewhat involuntary Q&A with her son and granddaughter. “Though reluctant to be there, Kay still had stories to tell — from disobeying her mother and fending off her many boyfriends while growing up in China to adventures as a store detective for Bloomingdale’s.”
